More Treat Ave street work?
``The city is going to do construction to fix the pot holes.`` Was the response. ``Not us, the City``.
You may remember, between October 2003 and Feb 2004, the city replaced the sewer line going down Treat ave. They opened up a 2 foot trench in the middle of the street, replaced the sewer lines, repaved the street and also replaced the curbs on the street.
Apparently, they didn't do something right when they closed up the trench in the middle of the street, because it has been sinking. There are numerous potholes, including the rather large one that appeared in January 2008, so hopefully the construction will be done properly this time.
However, we might be in for another 2 months of Treat being under construction again, like it was in last 2003.
(Here are some pictures from the 2003/2004 sewer replacement on Treat)

The photo below shows a cross-section of the street after it was cut through. Notice the old cobblestones/ bricks under the asphalt.

The new sewer line. They would rip out the old pipes, and immediately replace it with the new pipes.

The new pipes were laid in a bed of gravel, our understanding is because that gives the pipes a bit of room to move during an earthquake.

If you know anything more about this construction, post a comment. Calls to 311 were directed to a voicemail number for DPW, who didn't return our call.

Pot Holes
Treat above Precita has been having some pothole issues since the sewer construction (re-cnstruction?) a couple years back.
About a week after Calling 311 and reporting the hole, DPW came out and checked it out, and left some barriers.
The hole kept getting deeper, and the barriers started to tilt.
Finally, a couple days ago, it got fixed. Yay!
Calling 311 does work!

Chainsaws at 1:30am on Treat?!?!
I know there are a lot of fallen trees in the city right now, but really, chain saws at 1:30am in the morning?
This is the tree (as seen Friday) that they were cutting on:

Stepped up police enforcement on Bernal Hill July 4th
district during the July 4th evening due to fireworks danger, alcohol
consumption and loitering. Three high profile areas to be monitored are Mt.
Davidson, Bernal Hill and the open space area adjacent to Walter Haas
Playground.
Which means, if you're planning on celebrating freedom with a glass of champagne on Bernal Hill, you'll be busted. Or at least, they'll make you pour out your bottle.
You've been warned!

Wanted gang fugitive arrested
Officers Melonee Alvarez and Shawn Phillips spotted a known and wanted gang fugitive on Precita. When the suspect saw the officers, he took off running. The officers chased him eight blocks, up hills, to the backyard of a residence on the 200 block of Mullen. At that location they captured him and arrested him for a no bail San Mateo County probation warrant and for resisting arrest. Case #070463472

Fire Hydrant Hit and Run on Precita 2/13/07
How did the truck get onto Harrison south of Precita there in the first place!?! This was a very lost truck driver.
It caused quite the backup on Precita and drivers were forced to go the wrong way to get back to Folsom.
