Rite-Way Market Fire

There was a fire at the Rite-Way market on Precita and Alabama on December 26th. The fire started in one of the refrigeration units. The store will remain closed for at least a month. There was some damage to the apartments above as well.

We are told the owners had insurance and are waiting on their claim before they can rebuild the store. We wish them well and are glad that no one was hurt.

OK, now it's clear the old Rite Way Market is not coming back. There is an "available for lease" sign posted out front. The place looks amazing, 3000 square feet of pure potential for a great grocery store or cafe/restaurant to serve the Precita neighbors. Good Life Grocery, Bi-Rite anyone? The area around Precita could be a food destination with the right anchor to set it off, just like the Good Life Grocery did on Cortland in 1991. There are many underused storefronts that could serve as the next gathering places for the neighbors. Why hike into the Mission or Valencia Street when it could happen right at Precita Park? Give the folks at the Good Life Grocery (415) 648-3221 (owner is Lester) or Bi-Rite Market
((415) 241-9760) a call and tell them to come on down to Precita Park. We'll support their businesses and be greatful for new neighbors like them. Help spread the word to other potential businesses you'd like to see near us. Now is the time!
